A classic motorcycle racing game from 1997.

Moto Racer was thought to be one of the best motorcycle racing games to have ever existed in 1997, and considering the competition, they were probably right. The key element such as graphics, gameplay, sound and user experience were all superior to previous games.

For Windows Computers And The Playstation 1

Moto Racer is a Windows-based racing game that also made an appearance on consoles in later years. It now has three sequels, with the third instalment conforming to a more modern standard of graphics. It is possible to download and play this game on its own, but some companies are offering the game as part of a three-game package so that people can work their way through all three instalments.

Fixing Bugs If You Have Them

Back in the day, the game used to crash now and again because things such as Direct X were new back then, but these days the game is fairly stable. Though with that said, there are places you can download it (where you have to pay), that have a buggy version, though there are simple fixes for the bugs online if you Google it.

Mid-Nineties Music

From the starter screen, you are going to hear the twanging rock guitars that were popular in the nineties and sound like something Bill & Ted would have cooked up on their excellent adventures. The music is okay and inoffensive.

It is Very Much An Arcade Game

You will figure this out the moment you start playing it. For example, when you click a choice on the menu, a voice tells you what you have picked. If you play a solo game, you can choose to practice, to run a single race, or to take part in a championship. Even if you are just starting out, you should still opt for the championship mode. You can figure out how to play it as you go.

Graphics and Gameplay

The graphics are okay, especially when you consider they were produced in 1997. The racing dynamic is not terrible, and slowing down at the right time will help you take corners in what can be vaguely described as realistic. The best part is the fact that if you do a wheelie, then you get a boost in speed, but you cannot really steer. This means you can tactically choose when to pop a wheelie to gain an advantage.

Pros

  • The graphics are okay considering when it was made
  • There is enough to keep you entertained for a while
  • The wheelie popping idea is a good one
  • The music is inoffensive and fitting

Cons

  • It is severely lacking compared to modern bike racing games
